ABOUT

Within the international International Union of Mail-Artists (IUOMA) network, the moniker Planet Dada is tied specifically to the multimedia artist, musician, and author Sean Woodward. [1, 2]

  • The Digital Hub: In historical directories of alternative art networks, Woodward’s Planet Dada platform is documented as an early, essential archive for the community. It featured open project calls, curated galleries of received mail, and showcased his own experimental digital art. [2] [5]
  • Signature Mediums: Woodward utilises the moniker to distribute specific lines of mail art, declaring that the spirit of Planet Dada relies on envelope furniture, custom-made artistamps, and bespoke hand-carved postal cancellation stamps. [1, 3]
  • The 191 Zine & Living Poets Gallery: Under the Planet Dada umbrella, Woodward published the 191 assembling zine—a collaborative publication where network participants sent in physical pages to be bound together—and hosted the Living Poets Gallery. [2]

Cross-Network Collaborations

Planet Dada frequently intersects with other well-known nodes in the modern mail art ecosystem. Recent community archives show Woodward’s Planet Dada pieces exchanging regularly with creators like Dadanautik (based in Bremen), Morningmoss Embassy, and Dr. Zach, the latter of whom curated the global Dada Domicile Mail Art Map at the Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art. [3, 4]
